Hello everyone! Welcome to a brand new segment of The Blog of Cars known as This Weekend in Motorsport. I’ll be covering various forms of motorsport races each week until December. This first segment is a bit late due to some technical issues we encountered along the way, sorry about that.
In our last flashback to the “noughties”, we had a look at China and how they’ve been moving up in the automotive industry. Now, we’ll be increasing the scale and having a look at the whole world, and how it was affected by the financial crisis.
I think it’s time to give you some quick opinions on a few vehicles shown at this year’s Geneva Motor Show.
Fiat has revealed Abarth version of the 500C and Punto Evo at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show. The 500C Abarth was spied at Abarth’s headquarters last year, now we have official pictures and details.
Chrysler has issued a recall for all of its 2005-2006 minivans: the Chrysler Town and Country, Dodge Caravan and Dodge Grand Caravan. The recall concerns possible issues with the airbag.
Dodge has unveiled a Furious Fuchsia edition of their Challenger at the Chicago Auto Show. They are painted in a colour called Furious Fuchsia, hence the name.
The World Car of the Year jury has announced their top 10 finalists for 2010. The top 3 will be announced in Geneva, while the actual awards will be given out at the New York International Auto Show.
Fiat Group has placed Maserati, Abarth and Alfa Romeo under the control of one CEO. Fiat Group Chief Executive, Sergio Marchionne, claims this is “to emphasize and leverage the value of the shared qualities of the three brands in terms of their sporting characteristics and performance.”
New day, new category winner. It’s big executive time. Big, elegant, comfortable cars for people with loads of cash who would rather sit in the back and let someone else drive them around. Space, comfort, gadgets rank high but style and other features are not left behind. If you would think the Germans would sweep this prize away, you’d be wrong. In fact, we have an all-Italian lineup.

Autodelta, possibly my favourite tuner of all time, and the very same tuner who created our 2009 Tuned Car of the Year, has now tuned what I think is one of the best looking cars ever made, the Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione.
