The man responsible for the murder of Uwe Gemballa about a month ago was reportedly arrested, convicted, and sentenced last week, all in a mere 24 hours.
This man is 28-year-old Thabiso Mpshe of Pretoria. He was arrested on Friday, and appeared in court that afternoon. There, he was sentenced to 20 years of prison.
While some attorneys believe the process was unusually quick, National Prosecuting Authority spokesman Mthunzi Mhaga says that criminal cases are dealt with within a day very often.
“If the person has an attorney (and) witnesses, prosecutors and all the other roleplayers are available, including a judge, the matter can be dealt with within a day.” said Mhaga.
