Mazda Plans To Reduce Vehicle Weights By 2011

Mazda is planning to reduce the weight of all their vehicles by at least 220 pounds (100kg) by 2011.

Apparently this will increase fuel efficiency by 3 to 5 percent. The engineers will have a hard time achieving this though, as they can’t use expensive, lightweight materials, the cars will become too expensive for their target market. Methods they will use to get rid of this weight include making smaller, more efficient engines, which will allow the car to become shorter, and smarter interior packaging.
