Citroen has taken the wraps off the Metropolis concept. It will receive a live debut at next month’s Shanghai Expo.
The Metropolis is a big luxury sedan, and at 5.3 metres in length, it’s longer than a long-wheelbase S-Class or the new Audi A8 L. Also, with a width of two metres, it’s as wide as a Maybach 62.
This car is the first car to be styled and developed at PSA Group’s Shanghai design studio. The styling is quite striking, with the inclusion of plenty of odd angles and 21-inch rims.
Underneath that body is PSA’s Platform 3, used on cars such as the Citroen C6 and Peugeot 407. Power comes from a hybrid drivetrain, which combines a 272 bhp 2.0L V6 with an electric motor, which produces 55 hp, or 95 hp when it believes you need more power. The engine also has a overboost function, increasing power output from 272 bhp and 277 lb-ft of torque to 460 and 317 respectively. That power is sent to all four wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox.
Citroen claims that this system gives the car the performance of a 4.0L V8 with CO2 emissions of just 70g/km.
