Motor Trend reports that a reliable source from Mazda HQ says the RX-8 will be ending sales in North America by 2011.
This rumour comes shortly after the official announcement of the RX-8 not returning to Europe for the 2011 model year. However, unlike the Eurpean situation, which is due to emissions standards, the US exit is, if true, most likely due to poor sales.
The RX-8 is likely on its way out completely, and not just in certain markets. Rumour has it that a RX-7 successor will replace the RX-8 as Mazda’s flagship sports car. Let’s hope so.
