Gordon Murray has released the first official pictures of his T25 city car, along with some details.
The T25 will be powered by a 660cc, three-cylinder engine, producing 51 bhp and 42 lb-ft of torque. The engine is connected to a five-speed clutchless transmission. That’s very little power, but the car weighs just 575 kg. Okay, I admit, even that doesn’t help. The result is a sleep-inducing 0-62 mph time of 16.2 seconds, and a restricted top speed of 90 mph. This car isn’t designed for performance though, so let’s focus on the stuff it was intended for.
Fuel economy is rated at 74 mpg (Presumably UK mpg), while emissions are said to be just 86g/km (That that Prius!). Moreover, it is just 240cm long, 130cm wide and 140cm high. Despite the size, it is said to be able to carry three passengers, and 120 litres of luggage (Or up to 720 litres if you fold the passenger seats down). It even has anti-lock brakes, traction and stability control, an airbag, and front and rear crash structures.
Looking at it, you might be wondering how to get in. Ah, well you see, it has a single door, with the front section swinging up to allow occupants in. There’s just one problem with this system. Rain, snow, hail and any other weather elements you might encounter will have an easy time getting in while that door’s open. Despite the flaws though, the car looks promising for a city runabout. We’ll let you know if any more details or pictures are released.
