Dodge has unveiled their 2011 Charger Pursuit police car.
The car appears to be based on the next-generation Charger, which hasn’t been revealed yet (Although plenty of spy shots exist). This may be why Dodge has only shown us one picture so far.
Nonetheless, we’ve got plenty of details. The car been fitted with a vast array of upgrades for police duty, including performance suspension tuning, heavy-duty anti-lock brakes, front- and rear-stabilizer bars, 18-inch steel wheels with performance tires, and a two-mode Electronic Stability Control system calibrated specifically for police-duty. Despite the performance suspension, Dodge claims the suspension geometry will give officers a comfortable ride for their long days of duty.
Power will come from either an E85 capable 3.6L Pentastar V6, or a 5.7L HEMI V8, and it will be sent to the rear wheels via a five-speed automatic transmission with overdrive. The engine will be cooled using a severe-duty cooling system, and the engine oil, transmission fluid and power steering fluid will receive external coolers.
The interior is also designed with police duty in mind, with Dodge even enlisting the help of the Police Advisory Board for it. There’s a Police Interface Module for easy equipment integration, police-duty front seats, a column-mounted shifter, and red/white LED interior lighting. An Enter-n-Go system will also come standard, presumably allowing for the officer to simply jump in and chase after a suspect.
To keep the officers safe, the car is equipped with multiple air bags, a driver’s knee bag, a tire pressure monitoring system, and more.
The car will be available for order by your local police department beginning in September.
