Morgan have chosen the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance show to unveil their incredible-looking Eva GT.
The luxury grand tourer will be the first Morgan capable of carrying four people and their luggage when it goes on sale in 2012. Underneath the superformed aluminium body panels, the Eva GT uses a developed version of the Aeromax Supersports’ lightweight bonded aluminium chassis.
The car will be powered by BMW’s direct injection, twin turbo straight six, giving it 302 bhp and 295 lb-ft of torque. It also means the Eva GT should be capable of 40 mpg and only 200 g/km of CO2. Weighing just 1250 kg, the car is expected to hit 62mph in around 4.5 seconds and a maximum speed of 170mph.
The Eva GT’s 4.7m length, 1.8m width and 1.2m height give enough space for the 2+2 interior to serve as “everyday family transport as well as a luxury GT,” according to Charles Morgan, operating director of Morgan Motor Company. Speaking to Autocar, Morgan also said, “The rear seats will be comfortable for children and small adults, and should serve for occasional use for taller occupants.”
Stability control, satellite navigation, xenon headlights, ABS and the latest ‘multi-stage’ airbags will be standard and there will be a choice of either six-speed manual or six-speed ZF automatic gearboxes.
Deposits are already being taken despite no official word on pricing, however Charles Morgan says, “You can be confident that it’ll be cheaper than the Supersports.”
