Subaru’s STI creates a sports variant of the Forester

Subaru’s STI division has created a sport variant of the Forester, dubbed the tS.

We got a preview of this car in the form of the S-Edition concept car at the Australian International Motor Show just a couple weeks back. Subaru has transferred most of the visual changes to the production car, as well as the 259 hp turbocharged 2.5L boxer engine. Unfortunately, they’ve also kept the five-speed, paddle shift operated automatic gearbox, with no manual option.

However, the Forester tS makes up elsewhere. It gets the sports suspension using many components off the Legacy tS, and an upgraded STI interior with bolstered seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, a red start button and drilled aluminum pedals.

Well, here comes the disappointing part. Subaru has not expressed any intention to sell the tS outside of Japan. Moreover, only 300 units will be made. If you happen to live in Japan though, the tS can be all yours for 3.6 million yen ($46,000 USD). Subaru will only sell it in Obsidian Black, Pearl White, Stylish Silver, and good old WR Blue Mica.
