Sauber F1 has confirmed that their engineers were attacked in Sao Paulo yesterday, in a case similar to Jenson Button’s.
The three engineers were in a minivan at 8 PM local time, sitting at a red traffic light. Five bandits then surrounded the van, one of them armed with a machine gun. After being threatened with a gun, the engineer in the passenger seat opened the door. Luckily, no one was hurt, but the bandits took two backpacks which were being stored by the engineer’s feet.
One backpack contained nearly nothing, while the other had a cellphone, passport, and various other personal belongings. The incident has been reported to the local police.
