McLaren and Mercedes split

The partnership between McLaren and Mercedes-Benz has come to an end, now that the last SLR McLaren Stirling Moss has been built in Woking at McLaren’s factory.

The manufacturers have had partnerships in Formula 1 and with the SLR McLaren road cars, but now both partnerships have ended. McLaren has built 2000 SLRs ever since the original variant.

The partnership was a good one. The road cars were brilliant, and the McLaren-Mercedes Formula 1 team had its fair share of success. But now, they are becoming direct rivals, with Mercedes’ SLS AMG competing with McLaren’s MP4-12C, as well as Mercedes-Benz GP competing with McLaren’s Formula 1 team next season.
