Pictures and details of Mercedes’ new electric SLS have been leaked onto the internet.
The SLS AMG E-Cell prototype has four 12,000 rpm electric motors powering all 4 wheels. Altogether the motors produce 519 bhp and 649 lb-ft of torque. This will propel the E-Cell from 0-62 mph in 4 seconds.
The Lithium Polymer batteries the car uses are positioned in a box behind the cockpit and in the car’s central tunnel.
A new rear diffuser provides more downforce and the car also has multi-link front suspension with push-rod dampers because of the extra space needed for the electric motors.
Production of the Mercedes SLS AMG E-Cell is due to start in 2013.
