Recently, a spy shot of a new Lancia Stratos came up on the internet. Now, we have confirmation that it’s real. And my God, it’s a wonderful thing.
The car is a project backed by German billionaire Michael Stoschek, CEO of automotive supplier Brose KG. He had a dream to recreate the Stratos. And so in 2008, along with his friend Chris Hrabalek, he went to Pininfarina and asked them to create such a thing. The first design was created by Jason Castriota, and then Bertone, the design studio behind the original, took over.
Underneath the gorgeous body lie the underpinnings of a Ferrari F430, including the same 4.3L V8. The body is all carbon fibre, resulting in a weight to power ratio of 5.5 lbs per horsepower. Not bad, not bad at all. It’s also got carbon ceramic brakes to bring it to a halt once you’re done hooning about, and a short wheelbase just like the original.
Currently, only one prototype exists, but a limited run of 25 units may happen once the design is finalized. Get your cheque books ready.
