Maserati have revealed the Kubang, which will be the company’s first venture into the luxury SUV market.
Designed to have a sporting edge, the Kubang will go head-to-head with Porsche’s Cayenne.
The Kubang has a much more coupe-esque body shape than than its German rival and integrates a lot of key Maserati styling touches, most notably the prominent front grille and strongly creased shoulder line over the rear arch.
The Kubang is based on the Jeep Grand Cherokee but Maserati purists will be glad to hear it will use the company’s Ferrari derived V8 petrol engine, designed in Modena and built in Maranello. There will also be a diesel option in Europe and the only gearbox announced is an 8-speed automatic.
As yet there is no on-sale date or price details.
