Peugeot may be Purchasing Mitsubishi

Peugeot has done some work with Mitsubishi recently. They’ve helped them with the Outlander, and the i-MiEV. Now, Mitsubishi is going through financial difficulties, and Peugeot is considering taking a majority stake in them.

This deal is apparently in the final stages, with Peugeot looking to stake a stake of over 50 percent. This deal would seemingly suit both parties very well, and it will likely go through soon.

Peugeot previously wanted to cooperate with Mitsubishi simply on a project-by-project basis, but it looks like these trouble financial times have changed things.

The plan would be for Mitsubishi to issue Peugeot $2.2 billion to $3.4 billion in new shares, giving them a 30 – 50 percent stake in the company.

Mitsubishi to Bring Next Generation Colt to the US

Mitsubishi has confirmed that they will be bringing the Colt to the US, which hopefully means Canada will be getting it as well.

It won’t be the current Colt though. It will be the next generation Colt, scheduled for 2012. This car will be smaller than the current Colt, and will come with either a 1.0L or 1.3L engine. A plug-in hybrid and electric version will follow in 2013.

Hopefully a Ralliart version will be available.

Mitsubishi RVR Officially Rolled Out

Mitsubishi RVR (2)

Earlier I posted about pictures of a Mitsubishi crossover. This was supposedly called the Mitsubishi RVR. Well, Mitsubishi has now officially unveiled the car, and there are higher quality pictures now, albeit the same pictures.

Mitsubishi RVR (3)

It is indeed called the RVR. It will be launched in Japan next spring, and in Europe next summer. Autocar mentions nothing about North America.

It’s 4300mm long, and is based on the same platform as the Lancer. The car will use a 1.8L four-cylinder engine, and there will likely be a diesel option for Europe.

The car is part of Mitsubishi’s effort to move away from its image of big SUVs and establish itself as a maker of smaller, more efficient vehicles.

Mitsubishi RVR?

Some pictures of what looks like Mitsubishi’s upcoming crossover have appeared on NetCarShow.

The pictures seem to match Mitsubishi’s patent, but where did these photos come from? Mitsubishi hasn’t made any official reveals that we know of, so presumably they’ve been leaked.

Further backing up the possibility of these being leaked is the odd top and bottom edges of the picture, as well as some graininess, mainly on the car, though it may only be visible when viewing them in larger size. Perhaps these are renders though. They look awfully realistic, but there seems to be a hint of possible rendering, so maybe it is. Maybe it’s just someone’s renders based on the patent filed, or maybe, again, leaked renders. I’m thinking these are most likely real photos that have been leaked.

NetCarShow lists it as the 2011 Mitsubishi RVR. Mitsubishi has previously badged a car as the RVR, so this is possible. The site states that the car will be first released in Japan in the spring of 2010, that it will be fitted with an all-new 1.8L gasoline engine, and that it is approximately 4.3 metres in length. It also says the car will have high environmental and fuel efficiency, and that it will be available worldwide.

Here’s the exact text quoted from NetCarShow:

Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (MMC) has decided to name its all-new compact crossover the Mitsubishi RVR. This all-new compact crossover is planned for sequential release globally, and will be first released in Japan in the spring of 2010.

The all-new Mitsubishi RVR is a compact crossover that provides high environmental efficiency and has a compact body while providing ample utility space and high performance.

The Mitsubishi RVR will be fitted with an all-new 1.8L MIVEC petrol engine, and will be approximately 4.3 meters in length, featuring high fuel efficiency via its lightweight compact body. With the Mitsubishi RVR, MMC expands its crossover lineup, which already includes the full-size Pajero, and the mid-size Outlander.

This new compact crossover will be released globally, including North America, Europe, and Asian regions including China.

A quick Google search of Mitsubishi RVR reveals nothing but the old RVR, so chances are this has been leaked, and will be taken down shortly.

Mitsubishi Recalls 30,000 Lancers

Well the reason is that apparently, Mitsubishi has found a problem with the front impact sensors. For those of you who don’t know, the impact sensors are there to detect the force of a collision and therefore decide if the airbags should be deployed or not. The 29.353 Lancers and EVO’s they are recalling were sold in “salt belt regions”* and actually I have absolutely no idea what that means. I mean it obviously has something to do with salt. Anyway, they say that melted snow and road salt can stick to the front impact sensors and corrode them so they could fail to deploy the airbags in the case of a serious crash. Apparently these salty regions are the following: Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia, West Virginia, Wisconsin and the District of Columbia. So, if you own an Lancer built between 2008-’09 and you live somewhere in the above states, call your Mitsu driver and get those sensors replaced.

Mitsubishi's CX Compact Crossover Renders

Renders of Mitsubishi’s upcoming CX Compact Crossover have been leaked from a design patent filed for the car.

Truth be told, I can’t make any judgment from the renders, I’ll have to see proper pictures, or maybe even see it in the flesh.
