Renault has announced that production of the Vel Satis will end.
The car has been in production since 2001. It was designed to replace the Safrane. Due to its unusual design, it was unsuccessful. Renault’s sale target was 50,000 units a year, but only 62,000 units have been sold ever since it first went on sale.
It’s a bit sad to see it go, as it is quite an interesting looking car, but that’s exactly what’s killed it off.
Eurocarblog says it will probably be replaced by a car from Samsung Motors, rebadged as a Renault, and that the Safrane name will be revived for it. Hopefully it will be just as good looking.

A fair point to be honest. There weren’t any sporty models. A GT version, or maybe even an RS version, would be quite nice. The intention of the Vel Satis was luxury though, so I doubt that was ever even considered.
Oh, and we wouldn’t delete a comment because we don’t agree with your opinion. So don’t worry about it. Only spam is deleted.
