Supercar of the Year: Winner

Time has come to announce our winner for the Supercar of the Year trophy from 2009. This and the upcoming Car of the Year award are the most prestigious ones we’ve done so far. We had plenty of nominees in this category as 2009 was a brilliant year for supercars and it really was tough to choose the winner.

However, we’ve argued and argued until we found a worthy winner. And that winner, our 2009 Supercar of the Year is:

Lamborghini Gallardo LP550-2 Valentino Balboni

Lamborghini Gallardo LP550-2 Valentino Balboni

Named after Lambo’s former test driver, Valentino Balboni, this special edition Gallardo is much, much better than the normal one. No four-wheel drive system means that this machine thrusts forward using the back wheels only, a thing that makes it just that little bit more exciting. The man it’s named after, Balboni, was a test driver for Lambo for a lot of time (about 40 years) and he had the privilege of knowing Ferruccio Lamborghini himself. Like all test drivers, he helped the factory fine tune their cars.

Runner-up: Ferrari 458 Italia

Ferrari 458 Italia

The Ferrari 458 Italia is a stunning machine. Not only is it faster, better and easier to use than the old 430 but it’s also the first really good-looking Ferrari for quite some time. It has a V8 engine which sounds like thunder and 570 rampaging horses. Our only problem with it is the flappy-paddle gearbox, which isn’t as manly as a proper manual one.
