Lotus refreshes the Elise

Lotus have given the Elise a midlife makeover, helping it to fit in with the Evora.

The revised Elise has been given a whole new front end with a wider bumper and clamshell bonnet. It also has restyled headlight clusters and is yet another car to give in to Audi’s LED daytime running lights trend.

The changes at the rear are more subtle but the car features a new rear bumper and a new engine cover.

The changes to the Elise are not purely cosmetic however. The revised bodywork has reduced the cars drag by 4%, reducing emissions figures across the range.

There is also a new 1.6 S, entry level model, which is the first time a 1.6 engine has featured in an Elise. Valvematic and Dual VVT-i technology has been used to optimise performance and efficiency in the new Toyota engine, helping it to produce just 155g/km of CO2.

Other additions include a new six-speed, close-ratio gearbox which will be fitted to all models, two new types of lightweight, forged alloy wheels and cruise control.

Prices will be revealed next month.
