Next Generation Porsche Cayenne Spotted Almost Undisguised

The next generation Porsche Cayenne has been spotted almost undisguised. By the looks of things, it will remain every bit as hideous.

The car will be adopting a more street focused setup, with bits meant for off-roading being scrapped in favour of a lighter and more responsive car.

More details and pictures will be available when the car is unveiled at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show.

More Details on Boxster Spyder Released

Porsche Boxster Spyder

Porsche has released more details on their upcoming Boxster Spyder, ahead of its unveiling at the LA Auto Show.

The engine being used comes out of the Cayman S. It develops 315bhp, compared to the 305bhp of the Boxster S, and revs to 7500rpm.

The car will weigh just under 1275kg, making it lightest car that Porsche makes today. Equipped with a seven-speed PDK gearbox and a Sport Chrono Plus package, it’ll get from 0 to 60mph in just 4.8seconds.

They’ve saved weight by fitting aluminum doors, an aluminum rear deck, lighter bucket seats and a lighter roof. The car also comes without air-con and a radio as standard.

There have also been some modifications to the chassis and suspension, including a 20mm drop in ride height and stiffer springs. To contribute even more to handling, the track has be widened both at the front and rear.

The alloy wheels are the lightest that Porsche offers, weighing less than 10kg each. They come with high-tech compound tires which can be ran at lower than normal pressures.

Other changes from the Boxster S include a different steering box, different front brakes and a limited-slip diff as standard.

There’s bad news too though. With the roof up, you can’t drive at more than 124mph, and Porsche doesn’t recommend that you drive it through an automated car wash.

New hardcore 911 racer

Porsche 911 GT3 R

Well we quite like a track racer here on The Blog of Cars and today we have a really, really good one. Porsche has launched its hardcore, ready for the track version of the 911 GT3 called the 911 GT3 R.

Well you might think that’s one S worse than the 911 GT3 RS street car, but you’d be wrong. This one comes with a luxury interior equipped with…urm…a seat, pedals, oh, and a steering wheel. It has a 4.0-litre six-cylinder boxer engine which churns out 480 bhp. The grunt goes to the rear wheels through a six-speed sequential racing ‘box. This is a replacement for the old 911 GT3 Cup S which, it turns out, was too much of a slouch. New modifications include a wider track and flared wheel arches. It also features LED lights and weighs in at just 1200 kg. Then there’s ABS and traction control which should make this stripped-out track car easier to handle for beginners.

Porsche 911 GT3 R

The only niggle I have with this car (Indeed it seems this new Alex guy hates something from every car) is that it’s just too heavy. That would be ok if it would be more powerful but with “only” 480 bhp it’s just not light enough. Don’t get me wrong I’m not in any way suggesting this is slow but for a track car, it’s not that fast. You can buy road cars that are faster. What I say doesn’t matter though because this is just an awesome car to start your racing career with. Provided you have 280,000 Euros in your wallet.
