Brand loyalties: Where do yours lie?

Audi RS5 Cabriolet

Although it’s always best to consider all options when purchasing a product, let’s face it — most of us have preferences for certain brands in their respective industries. So my question for you today is this: where do your brand loyalties, if any, lie in the automotive industry?

Vorsprung durch Hoonage – Enjoy a photo of some fun in the snow, quattro-style

Audi Sport quattro S1

Living in Canada, it feels pretty ironic that I still haven’t seen any snow this winter. In fact, it sucks really. There’s just 9 days to Christmas after all. To alleviate my disappointment, I found this photo of an Audi Sport quattro S1 having a bit of fun in the snow. If only I could do the same. Maybe Mother Nature will get the hint and send some snow this way!

Some Volkswagen diesel engines reportedly experiencing fuel pump failures

Volkswagen Beetle TDI engineI’ve always been one to sing the praises of diesel vehicles. North America has been hesitant to embrace them, but diesel cars tend to be more efficient and pack quicker acceleration. Unfortunately, it’s not always so bright and rosy. A number of Volkswagen and Audi owners have been reporting premature fuel pump failures in their diesel cars, enough to have prompted an investigation by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration into the 2010 Audi A3, 2010 VW Golf, and 2009-2010 VW Jetta diesels.

Audi shows off the phenomenal noise of the new RS6 Avant

If there’s one thing Audi seems to have been excellent at in recent years, it’s exhaust notes. The latest RS4 Avant sings one of my favourite automotive tunes ever – in none other than a relatively unassuming wagon! So when I stumbled across this short video of the new RS6, I was pleased to find that Audi has got yet another hit on their hands.

Mazda rumoured to be working on extra-small CX-3 crossover

In recent years, we’ve seen the advent of tiny, and arguably useless, crossovers – the Audi Q3 and BMW X1 come to mind. But such machines aren’t exclusive to the Germans. The Nissan Juke and the Ford EcoSport are also examples of such cars, and now Mazda is rumoured to be joining the bandwagon with a car they’ll call the CX-3.

BMW M-what? Audi trounces the competition with all-new RS6 Avant

Fast wagons may be a dying trend for some manufacturers, but at Audi they’re tradition. Audi’s first two high-performance RS-cars, the RS2 and RS4 Avant, were only offered as wagons. And although they veered away from tradition thereafter, they’re back in the game with the all-new RS6 Avant. The best part? On paper, this car absolutely obliterates the competition.

Automakers respond to my pleas, roll out lots of diesel goodness at LA Auto Show [UPDATE]

Just last week I wrote my plea for more diesel cars here in North America. If you haven’t read it, to make a long story short, diesel is awesome and we don’t have enough in North America. But it seems the automakers have been listening! The 2012 Los Angeles Auto Show has barely kicked off, and already there are three manufacturers planning to bring new diesel cars to this side of the pond. Let’s have a look at them.

UPDATE: We have official confirmation of the Mazda6 diesel, scroll down to the original information for more details.

AOL Autos announces 2012 Technology of the Year finalists – here’s my pick

Awards can be pretty important in the automotive world. Give an automaker an award and they’ll bang on about it for a pretty long while, before hopefully moving on to another one. And in this day and age, what more appropriate award than Technology of the Year? AOL Autos has just such an award, and is asking for people to vote on it from their list of finalists. Here’s what I voted for.

If you could only own one car your whole life, what would it be?

Part of the beauty of the automotive industry is undeniably variety. Cars of all sorts have been produced over the years – daily drivers, weekend toys, workhorses, and a wide range of others. But if you could only have one car for your whole life, what would you choose?

Audi captures their eleventh Le Mans victory, first-ever hybrid victory with R18 e-tron quattro

The 24 Hours of Le Mans is, without a doubt, one of the most grueling motorsports events in the world, pushing man and machine to their absolute limits for 24 hours. Winning it, even once, is a great achievement. But Audi has managed to take home their eleventh victory today, with a 1-2-3-5 finish at the 80th running of the famous endurance race.
